Getting to a Cancun casino without a car

Start with the map, because it decides everything else. Cancun runs two incompatible address systems at once: the beach strip is numbered by kilometre marks along a single boulevard, the mainland by blocks called supermanzanas. A visitor who knows he is at «km 16.5» gets nothing from an address like «SM 39 Mz 10», and the reverse is just as true.

The practical consequence: if you are on the beach, one casino is close and five are across the lagoon. Macao to Jubilee is 7.18 km (4.5 mi) in a straight line, and the road is longer than that. The kilometre-by-kilometre arithmetic for boulevard hotels is further down this page.

The four ways to move, and what each really costs

One warning about the taxi row above. The two sources we found for the same trip — downtown to the Hotel Zone — disagree by a factor of three and a half. That gap is not sloppy research; it is the system. There are 53 tariff zones, no published table of them and no meter, so the price depends on the driver, the hour and whether you asked first. How that plays out trip by trip is set out below.

The number that decides your evening: 10:30 p.m.

There is a second timing trap peculiar to Cancun: two of the casinos stay open long after the mall around them has closed. La Isla shuts at 10 p.m. while Macao runs to 4 a.m. — a six-hour gap. Las Plazas Outlet shuts at 9 p.m. while Broadway runs to midnight. Which door you leave by at three in the morning is not published anywhere; ask at the casino desk on your way in.

The bridge that redrew the map in May 2026

Until last year, everything between the beach and the city funnelled through the two old causeways. The Nichupté bridge opened to traffic on 7 May 2026: 11.2 km (7.0 mi) in total, of which 8.8 km run straight across the lagoon. It is free, lit and open around the clock, and it lands at kilometre 13.0 of Kukulcán Boulevard — 1.12 km from Casino Macao, in front of Kukulcán Plaza. On the mainland side it feeds into the same junction that carries Avenida Tulum, which is the axis of the three downtown casinos.

These are straight lines between map coordinates, not driving distances. Real routes run 20 to 40 per cent longer, and more than that inside the Hotel Zone, where there are no shortcuts: lagoon on one side, sea on the other.

Where you are starting from

Settle these before you leave the room

• Carry pesos, and small ones. Bus drivers take cash only, and federal regulation requires betting operations to be in national currency.
• Agree the taxi price out loud, in pesos, before the door shuts. Quotes given in dollars for short hops are a documented local complaint.
• Bring a passport. Palace Bingo publishes that requirement for foreigners, and Macao reviewers report being asked for documents at the door. The rest of the door rules are on what to know before you walk in.
• Check the hours the same day. Codere Paseo publishes none, and Casino By Yak's own announcement and its Google listing disagree by an hour at each end.

One last piece of arithmetic, done honestly. A round trip from a kilometre-18 hotel to the downtown rooms runs roughly 650 to 900 pesos by taxi at the published «from» prices, plus a return leg after the buses have stopped. The machines at the other end are physical: a Cancun floor has no demo mode of any kind, so there is no way to see how a game pays before you load cash onto a house card.
