The mall closes six hours before the casino does

La Isla itself — 4.6 on more than 37,000 reviews, an open-air mall built around canals on the lagoon side — shows hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Google, while tourist catalogues say 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The casino runs to 4 a.m. either way. That is a gap of about six hours between the venue closing and the building around it closing.

How the night entrance and exit actually work is not published anywhere, and we are not going to guess: ask at the casino, on +52 998 400 8497, or at your hotel desk before you go. It is the single most useful question about this room and no page in the search results answers it.

What is on the floor

Google's listing description is the most detailed of any Cancun room, and reviews back most of it up. Confirmed by more than one reviewer: blackjack, roulette — American style, with a double zero — baccarat, craps, three-card poker, a Texas-style table game and slot machines. There is a separate sports book area with a large screen.

On limits, one review gives blackjack as a 100-peso minimum and a 1,000-peso maximum — roughly 6 to 60 dollars. That is a single source, so treat it as an order of magnitude rather than a rule; what several English reviewers say independently is that the minimums here are low.

The most common English review theme is not a game at all: «small casino», 24 mentions, against a venue that describes itself as the most complete casino in Cancun. Cleanliness is second. Table games, roulette and blackjack follow — the reverse of the machine-first pattern at the downtown rooms.

Food and drink are handled by neighbours rather than by the casino: KAI, a Japanese restaurant, sits in the same complex, and the venue names a bar and a sports-bar dining area. There is no loyalty programme we could find, and a 2024 review states flatly that the house offers no courtesies for visitors and no welcome bonus. Free drinks for players: reviewers say there are none.

Money: the theme that dominates this room's reviews

Six of the ten most frequent Spanish review topics here are about money — exchange rate, cash, rate, taxes, dollars, fraud. No other venue in the state reads like that, and the reason is in the reviews themselves: one describes starting out behind because dollars are taken about twenty per cent under what the exchange houses give. Another, in English, describes getting dollars onto a peso card and then cashing the card out as confusing.

The legal background is simple. Betting operations in Mexico must be conducted in pesos, so any dollar you hand over is converted at whatever rate the house applies, and no Cancun venue publishes that rate. Change money before you walk in — and know where.

• Always decline «conversion» at any terminal or ATM offering to charge you in dollars: the markup on that is usually put at 5 to 8 per cent.

Getting there from your hotel

Hotel Zone addresses are kilometre marks along a boulevard that runs 26 km (16 mi) from kilometre 0 at the Kukulcán fountain. The casino is at km 12.5, which is about 7.8 miles along. From a hotel at km 16.5 that is 4 km (2.5 mi) back toward town; from km 9, three and a half the other way. That single number tells you more than any address.

The rest of the city's rooms are a long way off: Jubilee is 7.18 km (4.5 mi) away downtown and Palace Bingo 7.83 km (4.9 mi). The ADO bus terminal is 8.84 km (5.5 mi). Within a few hundred feet, though, the density is remarkable: a Canopy by Hilton at 32 m (105 ft), a taqueria with 7,736 reviews at 4 m (13 ft), a pizzeria with 6,267 at 126 m, and Park Royal Beach and the Westin Lagunamar at 201 and 333 m.

The other «casinos» on this boulevard

Two names will come up if you ask around the strip. Red Casino at Grand Oasis, kilometre 16.5, is advertised by the hotel as operating 24 hours and appears in the federal list of authorised establishments for October 2025, while Google marks its listing permanently closed — the sources contradict each other, so we do not count it. Live Aqua sits directly opposite La Isla at the same kilometre mark, which is why some listings credit the hotel with a casino it does not have.

Everything else on the boulevard that gets called a casino is a resort arcade with no wagering. A sweep of Google Maps around kilometre 16 returns 21 places and not one filed under the casino category. The full picture is in the Cancun overview and the state-wide register.

Before you load a card

Play here works the way it does everywhere in Mexico: you load cash onto a house card at the cage, and there is no demo, no free spin and no credit — the last of those is banned outright by regulation. If your plan was to see how a game pays before committing money, a floor cannot do that at any hour; a licensed website can, and one operator's catalogue opens in free mode without registration. Same regulator, different cashier.

And take your passport. Reviewers here are explicit that documents are asked for at the door, and above roughly 38,126 pesos any Mexican venue is legally obliged to identify a customer formally — which for a visitor means a passport, not a hotel key card.
