The map of no
Where there is no casino in Cancun — the full map of «no»
Cancun does have casinos: six of them, all licensed by the federal Interior Ministry, all a taxi ride from the beach strip. What it does not have is a casino in the places Americans actually ask about — inside the all-inclusive, at the airport, on Cozumel, in Tulum, on Isla Mujeres. This page is the other half of the answer: every «no» on the map, with the check that produced it, verified on 10 September 2026.

The honest answer to «are there casinos in Cancun» is a yes and a long list of noes, and nobody publishes the list. Across seven English queries we measured, the number of results Google reported ranged from 93 to 125 — a nearly empty index — and the top five were TripAdvisor, Reddit, Facebook, Yelp and booking sites. Not one page that simply answers.
The six that are real, in one paragraph
Two stand-alone buildings downtown on Avenida Tulum — Jubilee, open 24 hours, 4.2 on Google with 3,592 reviews, and Palace Bingo & Sport Bets, noon to 3 a.m., 4.0 with 1,081. One inside the Hotel Zone: Macao, in the La Isla mall at kilometre 12.5, noon to 4 a.m., 4.0 with 549. Three more out west and south: Codere Paseo (3.8 with 418, hours not published), Casino By Yak in Plaza Las Américas (3.8 with 275) and Broadway in Las Plazas Outlet (3.4 with 11 reviews). The detail is in every casino in Quintana Roo.
Statewide the federal count is 14, the figure the gaming directorate publishes by state and the number this site reaches counting listings one at a time: six in Cancun, three in Playa del Carmen, three in Chetumal, two inside hotel complexes.
No, your resort does not have one — with two exceptions that come with fine print
This is the biggest «no» on the page, and the one that gets decided at booking time. Of roughly two hundred hotels in Cancun and its surroundings, two have a gaming floor inside — and neither is the simple answer a travel site would give you.
Everything else guests remember as «the casino at my hotel» is an arcade: Moon Palace runs one called Wired, included in the all-inclusive, and Crown Paradise has a Game Room. Why the permit cannot belong to a hotel, and why your wristband stops at the door, is in why almost no resort in Cancun has a casino.
The islands: Cozumel and Isla Mujeres
Cozumel is the sharpest case on the map. It is Mexico's biggest cruise port — 1,300 ship calls and 4,732,250 passengers in 2025 — and it has no casino at all. The one that existed, the Jackpot run by Codere on Avenida Rafael E. Melgar, is marked permanently closed on a listing the operator itself maintains. And if you are reading this on a ship: your ship's casino is shut on the day you are in Cozumel, because shipboard casinos stay closed in port.
The whole case — what the Jackpot was, why Google still shows a second listing that says «open», where the Hard Rock Casino Cozumel myth comes from — is in there is no casino in Cozumel.
Isla Mujeres is a simpler no: nothing closed there, because nothing ever opened. Nine casino listings sit within 15 km of the island and every one of them is in Cancun, on the mainland. From the Puerto Juárez ferry dock, Palace Bingo is 4.05 km away in a straight line and Jubilee 4.89 km — a crossing and a short drive, with the last boat mattering more than the casino's closing time. That is set out in Isla Mujeres has no casino.
Tulum: none now, and no record that there ever was one
Searching the word «casino» over the centre of Tulum returns one object, and it is a hotel. Widening to every business filed under the casino category within 30 km returns exactly one, and it is Casino Bahía inside a resort complex in Akumal, 26 km north. We also found no press record of an opening or a closure in Tulum — absence of evidence, not proof, and we word it that way.
Two results on the first page of that search are simply invented: a cruise guide publishing «11 Casino Tulum Guide», none of whose eleven venues exists on the map, and a directory listing called «Win-Win Casino and Casino Bahia» filed under Tulum. The rest, including what the new airport did and did not change, is in is there a casino in Tulum.
The airport, and why Americans expect one there
In Nevada the slot machines start at the departure gate, so the question travels with the passenger. Cancun airport has four terminals — Terminal 1 is private aviation only — and none has a gaming floor: the city-wide sweep of the casino category returned 66 businesses and not one declared an airport address. The nearest room is Jubilee, about 13 km away in a straight line.
How much of this demand goes nowhere
Roughly 2,200 US searches a month in the lines above are aimed at a casino that is not there — close to the whole head term for the city. The question cluster is also the fastest-growing part of it: «is there a casino in Cancun» is up about a third year on year, and «does Cancun have casinos» about the same.
And sometimes «casino» is not a casino at all
In this part of Mexico the word does three extra jobs, and all three land in the same search results. It is the name of a Cuban partner dance — a Cancun salsa school called Golden Casino Dancer draws 90 searches a month, more than several real rooms in the state. It is what companies call the service of bringing roulette tables to a wedding, with chips worth nothing. And «sala de juegos», game room, covers seventeen Cancun arcades where the prize is a stuffed toy. Add the Las Vegas names people attach to this city — Caesars Palace, Stardust, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay — and you have most of the local noise. Each case, and the tell that separates it from a licensed room, is in what a Mexican casino is not.
If the answer for your location is «no»
Then the honest options are three. Travel to a room that exists — from most Hotel Zone hotels that means Macao at kilometre 12.5, and from a ship in Cozumel it means the ferry to Playa del Carmen, where one casino sits a kilometre from the dock. Change the plan. Or stay where you are, with one fact worth knowing: a Cancun gaming floor has no demo mode at all, because play runs through a house card you load with cash at the cage and credit is banned by law. A licensed site run by the same kind of operator opens in free mode before any money moves.
Two caveats from the operators' own terms: payouts go by transfer to a Mexican account number a visitor does not have, and one major operator states that using its site from inside the United States is strictly prohibited and that winnings will not be paid. Both are set out in playing online from Cancun.
Frequently asked questions
Are there casinos in Cancun?
Yes — six: Jubilee and Palace Bingo downtown on Avenida Tulum, Macao in the La Isla mall in the Hotel Zone, Codere Paseo and Broadway on Avenida Andrés Quintana Roo, and Casino By Yak in Plaza Las Américas. Entry is free and the legal age is 18. What the city does not have is a casino inside its beach resorts.
Is there a casino in my all-inclusive resort?
Almost certainly not. Two hotels in the state have a gaming floor: Grand Oasis in Cancun, where the hotel and the federal list say it operates while Google says permanently closed, and Royalton Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos, where Casino del Mar opened in December 2025 and is charged separately. Everything else guests call a hotel casino is an arcade with no betting.
Is there a casino in Cozumel?
No. The only one the island ever had, the Jackpot operated by Codere on Avenida Rafael E. Melgar, is marked permanently closed on a listing its own operator maintains, and a full category sweep of the island returns nothing open. The nearest casino is in Playa del Carmen, about a kilometre from the ferry dock.
Does the casino on my cruise ship open while we are docked in Cozumel?
No. Shipboard casinos close before the ship enters port and reopen only in international waters — industry guidance puts that threshold between 3 and 12 nautical miles. Your day in Cozumel is precisely the day that option is unavailable.
Is there a casino at Cancun airport?
No, in none of the four terminals. A sweep of every business filed under the casino category in Cancun returned 66 results and not one airport address. The nearest room is Jubilee, roughly 13 km away in a straight line.
Are there casinos in Tulum?
No. Searching the word over central Tulum returns one object and it is a hotel; the category sweep within 30 km returns a single venue, Casino Bahía in Akumal, 26 km north, inside a resort whose access rules for non-guests are published nowhere.
