The trap on the boulevard is the 10:30 p.m. line. The buses stop six hours before the room closes, and the mall shuts at ten. How you get out of the complex after that is published by neither the mall nor the casino: it is the question to ask at the casino desk on the way in, not on the way out.
- By bus: R-1 and R-2 run the boulevard both ways; the Hotel Zone fare is around 12 pesos, cash and coins. A rise to 15 was announced and frozen, so confirm as you board.
- By taxi: fares go by zone, there is no meter, and the price is agreed before you get in. Published estimates vary enormously — see taxi prices. Ask in pesos, not dollars.
Where the idea that the hotel has a casino comes from
Two habits and one true sentence. First, Americans expect a big resort to include a casino: every month around eighty US searches attach Las Vegas hotel names to Cancun, for properties that never existed here. Second, the “casino hotel” filter on travel agency sites — one published ranking of “the 10 best casinos in Cancun” opens with three hotels that have no gaming room.
The true sentence is the Grand Oasis advertising itself for years as “the only casino in the Cancun Hotel Zone” — accurate, but retold often enough it becomes “Cancun hotels have casinos”.
